SAFETY
POLICY: Participant safety
stands at the forefront of EAL and should never be compromised thus
understanding when to escalate and de-escalate is consequential.
Equine-Assisted Learning is more than just following a how-to
instruction booklet. It involves understanding the critical
nature of the facilitation process; it is also being able to evaluate
specific circumstances objectively then acting with discretion.
Every exercise put out by the Cartier Equine Center contains different
levels of escalation/de-escalation. Your application and
completion of the exercise's level will depend on a number of things,
1- the participant's previous experience with horses, 2- the
individual's mind set, 3- their physical abilities 4- their emotional
maturity and 5- the time restraints. Every exercise has the
ability to stand on its own, intended to work as a guide and should be
implemented with good judgment. Inasmuch as the Cartier Equine
Center goes to great lengths to teach and facilitate safe experiential
learning practices, the Center does not accept responsibility for any
inappropriate implementation or application. You are encouraged
to use common sense when bringing together participants, horses and any
equine-assisted learning exercise.
